Home Remedies for Dandruff

At some point in your life, you may have experienced itchy scalp due to dandruff. Dandruff can be triggered by exposure to extreme heat or cold. It is characterized by the shedding of dead skin cells from the scalp. Flaking is normal in small amount but serious in large quantities. Dandruff problems can usually be treated with shampoo, but in extreme cases, one can rely on natural home remedies.

Dandruff can be alarming in cases where it already causes self esteem problems. People with dandruff often are self-conscious that others might see how their hair looks, making them aloof with people around them. Hence, treatment may be important not just to cure the person physiologically, but to alleviate the psychological burden they experience.

A common cause of dandruff is poor nutrition. As our skin reflects nutrition utilized from our body, so does our scalp. It is vital to be conscious about our diet since our outer radiance can be affected. Deficient levels of zinc can trigger a flaky scalp as zinc is an important nutrient for the maintenance of our skin. Deficiency of this vitamin can pose problems for our scalp. Another cause can be fungal infection. Dirt can attract fungus that can, in turn, lead to a flaky scalp. We must always keep our hair clean so as to eliminate being affected by fungi. High use of alkaline soaps and shampoos can also lead to dandruff related problems. This problem usually occurs when shampoo and soaps are not thoroughly rinsed as we wash our hair. Soap and shampoo residue, as the chemical components accumulate on our scalp, can often lead to flaking.

There are a number of natural home remedies for dandruff. An effective way to cure dandruff is to apply lemon immersed in coconut oil on your scalp. Apply the solution for eight to ten days and you will be surprised to see flaking in your scalp disappear.

To safeguard yourself from future dandruff attacks, you can resort to lime juice. Wash your hair with it to have an instant protection against dandruff. In addition, your hair will be silky, smooth, and shiny.
